Can Lime Prime be painted over the latex wall paint?
ANSWER
Yes. Lime Prime works over any latex, water based paint that we have come across. Often, Lime Prime is sprayed over large areas that have been flooded and have mold damage. It coats the surface and prepares it for a top coat. Wall cavities, basements, attics, the back of sheetrock before it is hung are all areas that can benefit from a coat or two of Lime Prime, especially if in a high mold climate. This is an excellent preventative measure to help keep the painted surface clean for long term. Lime Prime is not just a paint loaded with cheap chemical biocides and labeled as a mold killing paint. It is much more than that. Chemical biocides are toxic substances that can kill mold initially but eventually lose efficacy. If the coating they are in is not made to withstand the tortures of a high mold environment, then when the chemical biocide progressively loses it's killing power, the mold will return and colonize unimpeded. Lime Prime on the other hand is made from the outset to be an inorganic, non hospitable environment for mold to grow on. The natural mineral combinations utilize the power of lime to create a long term solution that continues to be active even in harsh conditions over long periods of time. Sample pints are recommended for testing in advance.
Can Lime Prime be painted over oil based paints?
ANSWER
Usually, but test first. Lime Prime adheres well to many oil based coatings but not all, especially siliconized coatings. There are too many variations of oil based coatings make a definitive proclamation. So a sample pint is recommended for testing in advance.
NATURAL MOLD CLEAN UP: It is a general rule that when there is a lot of mold build up that needs cleaning on an oil based coating then that surface should be washed with Earth Clean and sanded to dull the surface and provide "tooth" for the Lime Prime to adhere to. We use Earth Clean to wash moldy and dirty walls because it has stronger detergency than bleach and is much more pleasant to work with. A pole sander with 120 grit sandpaper makes fast work out of dulling the surface and providing tooth. It also knocks down imperfections and provides a smoother appearance.
